berlin is bankrupt - long live berlin!

the latest trend here is to invest all the money you don't even have in the coolest computing gear and with the rest of the money you don't even have you rent yourself an office. then you just let it all start_up!

of course you could do the same thing at home, but if your home has already mutated into an internet cafe, you just probably feel like going to work for a change. and your parents get the comforting illusion of you having a real job, when you tell them that you're 'at the office'. - - -pure perfection! why starve at home next to a full fridge, when you can starve in your ascetic büro drinking bad coffee day and night?

1,2 million squaremeters of vacant office space in this city, and the army of cranes decorating the skyline promises another million to come. time to grab our share, eh? a walk through downtown prenzlauer berg offers you an alternative kind of window-shopping experience: it's not the big fat stores where you confront your first new imac - it's the little wee büro round the corner down the street.

one thing you should keep in mind: while celebrating the officewarming party, don't get too drunk - someone might steal the keys from your pocket and come around at dawn just to pick up your gear and have an officewarming in another cool location,,,*

bürock on!

*drama in real life

unidentified party injuries | 02.03.2002 | 19:06

once a week i find myself swearing that i'll never drink again. or that i'll get myself a party insurance at least. my saldo today: one sore ankle, one mystically burned finger and one classically aching head. oh my. good for me that i don't have two heads,,,

another good thing about this mess is that i'll find the one guilty of it all within the limits of my own body. no need to get up in order to go and tell how undescribably bad ideas that bastard has.

it's fascinating how lousy my memory is.

well, i didn't make it to the b.r.m.c. concert tonight, but i probably got something better instead: drinking too much beer with an amazing colleague of mine, spouting about things like not getting useful things done, how peculiar love can be, why the frenchman ended up facing a hungry family and why it's not worth a try throwing yourself down from the sixth floor. we decided to put together the perfect toilet magazine :> on saturday.

happy birthday radio helsinki! 1 year of pure greatness behind you and a hundred more ahead! how would i ever had stayed insane without you?! huuuh??? i like the idea of a radio station, but i definitely don't like the idea of a playlist-hell,,, long live the free will of a radio dj!

it makes the cars want to hit you, the dogs want to bite you and your feet want to go the wrong way.

at least in berlin.

it just might also have something to do with the spooky weather we've been confronting recently: a sticky soup of lightnings, hailing, bright sunshine and heavy wind [it's very rarely windy in this city-by-no-sea,,,]

most likely it's got nothing to do with anything.

apart from the fact that it reminded me of cosmicomics by the fabulous italo calvino. i read the volume in my early teens, and i somehow have the feeling i could give it another chance - - - not that i didn't love it already back then,,,

do you remember the time when there were hardly any dimensions in this universe??

a crashed volvo | 26.02.2002 | 01:43

when a finnish and a swedish band are touring together, it's my duty and pleasure to go and see the battle:

the crash and eskobar played tonight in berlin, and - instead of simply enjoying the marvellous concerts - i kept myself busy defining 'what makes a swedish band a swedish band and a finnish band a finnish band'. . .

the eskobar guys do make amazingly beautiful music. they choose the notes they know they can hit. and they do it all damn well. so why do they have a skeptical customer here?

the swedishness in eskobar is at its purest: the expected sweaty and fleshy live-experience turned out to be like a technically perfect, double-polished sunday afternoon cruise in a volvo. no need to fasten your seatbelts. and if you have trouble [which you won't have anyway] with the engine, there is a tiny volvo-repairman available every 100 meters.

when i go to a concert i don't want to be safe. if that was the case, i'd stay home, make a huge cup of herbal tea and listen to the cd.

the crash, again, put me in a condition where i was constantly on the verge[s] of uneasiness, hope and astonishment, mostly all of the three at the same time. this is probably what they mean with their brilliantly awkward non-term 'united states of mind'?!

i probably won't be able to itemise the finnishness of these guys, but the way they manage to maintain their professional unprofessionalism, is just simply charming. and i'm not talking about glorifying being plain crap,,, i'm talking about taking risks, shooting, scoring and winning :>

aaachhh, such sweet pop olympics!
